From Russian gangsters, African dictators and tax dodging Greeks, hot money floods onto the UK property market, as overseas speculators seek a safe haven for their fortunes. Our rule of law and impartial system of justice protects their land against trespass, damage and arbitrary confiscation. However the relationship is entirely parasitical. Speculators benefit from the protection of British law, but do not contribute towards the costs of maintaining the state.

MP welcomes fall in unemployment rate
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed today's unemployment figures from the Office of National Statistics, which show a further fall in the number of unemployed people in Westmorland and Lonsdale.

Council Office Blocks Making Way for Public Space, Return of Town Centre Cinema and Much More
This photo taken last week from River Street car park shows the little left of the Council office buildings which stand, or rather stood, beside the Town Hall Office Block alongside the River Great Ouse. The Town Hall Office Block and neighbouring council blocks are being demolished to make way for a large, public riverside square and for new restaurants and retail outlets as part of the development which is bringing town centre cinema back to Bedford. The developers Coplan have announced operators that have been signed up to date, which include Vue Cinema and restaurants Zizzi, Chimichanga and Bella Italia.

Refurbished Allhallows Car Park to Re-Open Tomorrow!
