Shepway least improved District Council in the Country say the Audit Commission

The Annual Audit and Inspection Letter from the Audit Commission has said that Shepway Council is ranked 388 out of 388 district authorities for the percentage of performance indicators that improved between 2006/07 and 2007/08. In addition service quality was well below the average for all district councils, with only 15 per cent of performance indicators in the best 25 per cent of performance nationally.

Benefit Changes will leave many without social security

Changes to the way benefits are paid will leave hundreds of local people without social security benefit for a week, a local Liberal Democrat has warned. The move to fortnightly payments will affect loan parents, widows, disabled and unemployed people.

Rochdale Councillor appointed to North West Heritage Board

Rochdale's Balderstone and Kirkholt Councillor, Dale Mulgrew, has been appointed to the board of the Heritage Trust for the North West. The Trust seeks to find new appropriate uses for historic buildings and encourages good design and craftsmanship. It also aims to restore and retain buildings driving rental income for them.
