Shropshire Councillor Heather Kidd (Chirbury and Worthen Division) is appealing against the Mid and West Wales Fire Service's move to close Montgomery Fire Station due to the severe impact this will have on both sides of the border. Heather said "We live in a very rural area and we have lost a good number of services lately. Montgomery Fire station covers much of my area as far as Worthen and Priest Weston, its loss would not only lead to longer response times for fire cover but also the probable loss of the First Responder vehicle based there. "I am also concerned that concentrating services in Welshpool will also overload that already hardworking Fire Station." William Powell, the Lib Dem Regional Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales is also taking up the issue with the Welsh Government.
