Liberal Democrat 'Fair Deal for the Forces' call voted down

A Liberal Democrat proposal for a better deal for those in the armed forces has been rejected in parliament. The proposal, put forward during an Opposition Day debate yesterday, called for a codified Military Covenant and for the government to ensure that those serving in the armed forces have access to quality accommodation and other services. Labour MPs voted down the proposals by 302 votes to 71, with the Conservatives not voting.

Local residents continue to live in fear of and feel disgust at the anti-social behaviour occurring on and around the Leas, according to Lib Dem Town Councillor Gary Fuller.

Dundee LibDem councillor criticises inferior TV services planned for thousands of local people

Following his highlighting last week the fact that thousands of Dundee TV viewers will still be getting a "second rate" TV service after the digital TV switch over in Tayside in 2010, Dundee City West End Councillor Fraser Macpherson today (Sunday 16th December) said that many of his constituents had contacted him to say how angry they are at TV bosses short-changing them.

170 flats planned for Ashford Hospital West Wing

Developers plan to build 170 flats on the site of the Ashford Hospital West Wing. A planning application was submitted to Spelthorne Council at the end of November and shows a 6-storey building with an underground car park.

Lib Dem research shows Christmas TV repeats 'up a quarter'

The number of repeats on TV this Christmas has increased by a quarter since last year, according to research by the Liberal Democrats. The study found that 44% of all programmes shown between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day will be repeats, up from 35% a year ago. Channel Five was the worst offender, as almost 60% of its output had been seen before and Christmas Day repeats were up on all networks except Channel 4.

The European Union has threatened to boycott a summit in the US of the top greenhouse gas emitting nations, accusing Washington of blocking goals for emissions cuts during UN talks in Bali. The EU and the US are accusing each other of holding up a deal in Bali, which is seeking to agree terms for two years of negotiations on a pact to succeed the Kyoto Protocol, the current plan for cutting greenhouse gases.
