Sedbergh residents welcome tougher action on Horse Fair

MP Tim Farron this morning chaired a meeting of police, council officials and local residents in Sedbergh to develop plans to prevent a repeat of last year's anti-social behaviour by a minority of travellers in the weeks preceding Appleby Horse Fair. The Horse Fair begins in the first week of June, but the anti-social behaviour plagued residents from 9 May onwards last year.

"All the Virtues of Man without his Vices"

Yesterday Jake my beloved companion for the past twelve and half years died. It all happened so quickly. He collapsed at home. When we got him to the vet it was obvious little could be done, so we mercifully put him to sleep. He had a happy life and only that morning he had enjoyed his walk to Swan Lane Open Space. Jake was a rescue dog twice over. His previous owner a young girl died of anorexia.

Cardiff Council breaks into the "Stonewall 100"

Every year Stonewall, Britain's largest lesbian, gay and bisexual equality charity, produces a list of Britain's top employers for gay staff - and this year Liberal Democrat-led Cardiff Council is celebrating reaching the coveted "Top 100" for the first time. The council was awarded 75th place, going up 94 places and is the only Welsh Local Authority to feature in the list, which also includes the National Assembly for Wales and North Wales Police.

Lib Dem Council's schools service to gain new award for LGBT equality work

Cardiff Council's Schools and Lifelong Learning Service is to be awarded a new and innovative quality assurance mark for its performance in meeting the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality agenda. Cardiff's Liberal Democrat Council Leader Rodney Berman will be presented with the Rainbow Mark at an award ceremony at the Senedd today.
