A planning application for a huge banqueting suite on the land to the rear of Hilton Road, bordering Monmore Grange was made. The Springvale Focus Team and local residents sprang quickly into action. Cllr Mike Heap said, "We rapidly organised an information leaflet and petition to the neighbouring houses which people could bring to Hilton Hall. This attracted hundreds of signatures and individuals also wrote letters of objection."
Liberal Democrats at County Hall are pleased that proposals to limit the use of free bus passes are likely to be ditched.
Residents in Bedford and visitors to town may have noticed the new signage on the pay and display parking ticket machines advertising the facility now available to enable you to pay by phone for parking. I launched the 'RinGo' scheme at Melbourne Street Car Park last week, and have had some good feedback so far from residents who have used the service. The purpose of this is simply to make paying for parking easier and more convenient, whether you are using one of the Council-run car parks or on-street parking. Payment can even be made via an iPhone app (other smartphones are available!).
A proposal from Epsom & Ewell's Liberal Democrat councillors that the borough should join Tourism South East (TSE) has been successful. Cllr Anna Jones is delighted that her proposal, which had first been discussed by the Environment Committee, then the whole Council and then the Leisure Committee, has now received broad support.
I noted down three comments the Council Leader made at last night's Council meeting.
Large numbers of people attended the event to boost funds. Home-made jams, chutneys and marmalade were on sale as well as cakes and pastries. I bought my usual marmalade replacement and treated the family to home-made sponge cake. There were some great bargains to be had at the stalls and a very welcome cup of tea.
