Participants in the Witherslack Welly Weekend were recognised in Parliament this week, after local MP Tim Farron tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons congratulating of all those who took part in raising money for the 'Heal Africa' charity.
Paul Rowen, MP Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Minister, questioned the Prime Minister on the issue of reinstating compensation for asbestos-related pleural plaques. The government has been delaying the publication of a statement into the issue of compensation.
The Conservative Cabinet at County Hall have refused to reconsider their decision to axe the Pegasus school buses as from July 2010. The Tory administration is reneging on a decision made only last December 2008 to continue the service for at least two more years until July 2011. The Conservatives do one thing before the election and another thing after.
Barnet Liberal Democrats are demanding that Barnet Council join with neighbouring Camden and Brent to encourage closer cooperation in Cricklewood.
Barnet Liberal Democrats are backing proposals to publish all Council expenditure over £500. Cllr Jack Cohen, leader of the Liberal Democrat Group is welcoming plans, which if implemented will give residents access to how the Council spend taxpayers' money. Cllr Cohen believes the Tory Administration has a poor record on transparent transactions and accountability but nevertheless he welcomes their belated attempt to improve.
