Tories running scared, drop plans for 15% tax hike

Faced with predictions of certain defeat in the refendum necessary to approve their planned 15% increase in council tax, after postponing the council meeting to approve the budget until the afternoon, Surrey County Council's ruling conservatives have swapped horses in mid-gallop and agreed to reduce the tax rise to 5%.

Farron welcomes funding for Lyth Valley pumps but vows to continue fight

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the announcement this week that the government will continue to pay for the Lyth Valley pumps until 31st December 2020, an 18-month extension on their previous commitment. Tim has long campaigned for the government to fund these pumps, and has vowed to continue the fight to secure funding beyond that date.

Small victory in Canal Road

Wiltshire Council's 'Cabinet' has agreed to allow one more day per week opening of the Household Recycling Centre (HRC) in Canal Road Trowbridge over the summer. Previous cuts had led to difficulties for users of the HRC and massive queues on Canal Road at peak times. Although not provable, the suspicion is that an increase in fly-tipping was linked to the restrictions.

After the argument and trauma of the EU Referendum and the sharp division that it has caused amongst Labour and Tory Parties the Stoke-on-Trent Central by-election comes at a critical junction. If the advance of the far-right is stopped here in Stoke-on-Trent it will be because of the campaign lead by Dr Zulfiqar Ali and the Liberal Democrats. So with 16 full days before the final polling day the schedule is going to impossibly tight. This article is to give you a short rundown of the plans and the ambition for the next week. If this week's programme does not convince you that we are trying to win, then frankly nothing will.
