Road Closure 30th October at the Tringford Road, Tring Canal Bridge

SURVEY WORK ON TRINGFORD ROAD BRIDGE, TRING Today 30th October Tringford Road Bridge and its approaches may be closed for sometime today to allow detailed survey work to be carried. This is with a view to proposing the installation of light controlled traffic management and other measure to improve the safety of road users, including pedestrians and cyclists. Hertfordshire County Council apologises for any temporary inconvenience.

City transport chaos creates perfect storm

Opposition Liberal Democrats have reacted with alarm to today's chaos in Newcastle arising from the almost complete failure of the Metro service. Planned power maintenance has resulted in an unforeseen power outage to the South Gosforth depot, resulting in many of the network's cars being unable to operate. The crisis appears to have caught Metro operators Nexus without effective contingency plans, with the existing bus replacement service to Tynemouth being withdrawn and Metro passengers being unable to use tickets on bus routes. This is expected to cause significant problems throughout the day, with only 5 trains currently running on the network, and with further problems envisaged as a result of the closure of the Tyne Bridge for the Freedom City event and with a sell-out crowd expected at Kingston Park for today's Newcastle Falcons-Leicester Tigers clash. Freedom City 2017

50 years ago civil rights campaigner Dr Martin Luther King Jr came to Newcastle upon Tyne to be honoured with a doctorate from Newcastle University. Tomorrow Sunday 29th October there will be aprogramme of events in Newcastle inspired by Dr King and epic civil rights struggles from across the globe, both past and present. Out of the buildings and through the streets of Newcastle will come a unique afternoon of theatre, music, dance, circus and art to celebrate the courage and sacrifice of those who have led the long march for civil rights. Starting from different locations across the city, the stories from Selma, Alabama 1965, Amritsar, India 1919, Sharpeville, South Africa 1960, Peterloo, Manchester 1819, and the Jarrow March, Tyneside 1936 will be woven together in a unique immersive performance featuring a local cast of hundreds that will develop throughout the day.
