Tuesday's full Council meeting had very few people in the public gallery. At least this Mayor does not kick off proceedings by warning the "public" they will be thrown out if they make a noise. Perhaps the attitude of the previous incumbent has turned the public off.
Dave Ledsom was a local businessman and a stalwart of Bedford Rugby Club. Today I went along before today's match for the presentation of the Dave Ledsom Civic Award, launched by Bedford Borough Council, to Mrs Ledsom.
A Liberal Democrat initiative to help Bedford Borough residents in blocks of flats to recycle their waste is set to be rolled out across the Borough after recycling rates rocketed at a number of sites included in a Council pilot scheme. The improvements saw recycling rates increase by up to 160%. The scheme was funded via a successful budget proposal by the Lib Dems, who have long called for improvements to remove the barriers which prevent many who live in blocks of flats from recycling their household waste.
The Transport Advisory Group (TAG) of Sandgate Parish Council is looking for local volunteers to help with the speed watch campaign. Sandgate Parish Council now has an agreement to use the speed watch camera bought by Folkestone Town Council. Various members of the council and local residents received training in its use over the summer and are now ready to put it into practice, but more helpers are needed.

The Transport Advisory Group (TAG) of Sandgate Parish Council has recently been discussing traffic issues on the A259 through Sandgate Village. In particular there have been concerns about Sandgate Hill at the junction with Coolinge Lane and Radnor Cliff Crescent. The concerns are magnified when parents and children are trying to get to and from school.
