LETTER ON PLASTIC USE IN LEWES
Following on from the success of persuading the Autumn Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton to pass the Plastic Pollution and UN Sustainable Development Goals Motion we would like you to persuade your local council; community group; employer and trade union to take action to tackle plastic, especially single use plastic. Below are examples of motions passed by county councils and local councils which you my wish to use as the basis of a motion to your local council; community group; employer and/or trade union. You may also want to use the Lewes Campaign Letter to local businesses
Last week (9 October) I stood for the first time in the City of London elections in Castle Baynard ward that stretches from Fleet Street to Blackfriars, taking in St Paul's Cathedral. It was a 3-week whirlwind of a campaign. The by-election was called as one of the Common Councilmen in the ward was elected as an Alderman elsewhere and created a vacancy. There were 8 of us contesting one place.
Parents in Bedford Borough are being urged to get their children vaccinated against seasonal flu.
At the October meeting of Mole Valley District Council, Tory councillors and their "Independent" allies combined to defeat a Liberal Democrat motion for the Council to support a "People's Vote" which would allow the public to have the final say on the terms of any Brexit deal. Mole Valley was one of the areas where the majority of voters supported Remain in the 2016 referendum and this year many local residents have expressed their support for a further vote on the terms of the deal.
