Debate on Petition about Pay & Display On-street Parking

Because over 20,000 people signed Surrey County Council's on-line petition opposing the introduction of charges for on-street parking throughout Surrey, using Pay & Display machines, a formal debate will take place during the council's AGM on Tuesday 10 May.

The final meeting of the 2007-2011 Borough Council once again descended into farce as RA and Tory councillors competed and disagreed about the best way to endorse the popular motion opposing Pay & Display charging for on-street parking, originally proposed by the Liberal Democrats.

Big leap forward in fight against trafficking

Catherine Bearder MEP, who has fought hard to encourage the government to opt-in to the directive, commented: "I am delighted the UK government intends to make such a strong commitment to the fight against human trafficking. The NGOs and anti-trafficking community groups I work with have been calling for the opt-in for some time now."

Welcoming Vision Modular Systems - More Investment and Jobs for Bedford Borough

The news that the modular building firm Vision Modular Systems are coming here and creating up to 250 jobs is fantastic for Bedford Borough. VMS had other options for their new location, but we worked with them to show them the benefits of doing business in Bedford Borough and I am delighted that they have confirmed that they will be coming here. VMS have been responsible for a number of major construction projects including the world's tallest modular building in Wolverhampton, and will be creating a range of skilled jobs at their new plant on the Woburn Road Industrial Estate in Kempston.
