Minister vows autism cash review

More funding could be found for teaching autistic youngsters in England, a minister has said. The pledge for action came after the children's commissioner for England described existing provisions as "shocking and appalling". Schools Minister Lord Adonis told BBC Radio Five Live's Weekend News there would be improvements in training. But he said many children already received "very good care and an extremely good education".

Local MP Tim Farron has tabled a motion in the House of Commons which praises the Ambleside Climate Change Initiative as a beacon of good practice which other local areas should look to replicate. Tim visited Ambleside last Saturday to launch the initiative.

Farron questions Minister on cluster munitions

Local MP, Tim Farron questioned Defence Minister Adam Ingram on the Government's refusal to back an international ban on cluster munitions. Cluster bombs, such as those used in the recent conflict in Lebanon can cause horrendous injury even long after a conflict has ended.

"Hospital fight can still be won" - Farron

Local MP Tim Farron is today urging local people not to give up in the fight to save Westmorland General Hospital from a dramatic reduction in services. Hundreds of local people have written formal complaints to the hospital trust, only to receive a standard letter informing them that the Trust does not intend to treat them as a formal complaint, and Tim Farron is urging people to write to the Healthcare Commission instead.
