Local Liberal Democrats are deeply saddened this week after the death of Margaret Hutchon, Borough Councillor for Great Baddow West and County Councillor for Chelmsford Central. Lib Dem group leader Councillor Mike Mackrory said: "Margaret was much loved and respected in this town. We were all stunned to hear she had died."
Today, Groby Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Councillor and Parish Councillor Martin Cartwright, along with Groby Parish Councillor Colleague Ted Hollick left the Conservative Party and joined the ruling Liberal Democrat group, at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.
In the same week as the Conservative Administration on Wiltshire Council launched a consultation on landfill and recycling sites, the Council was revealed to be spending £24million on a revamp of Council buildings, and throwing out perfectly good furniture.
Responding to today's launch of a consultation into civil partnership ceremonies in religious premises, the Liberal Democrat body for LGBT equality has encouraged people of all faiths and none to engage with the consultation. If successful, the consultation would allow individual religious premises to apply to their local authority for approval to host civil partnership registrations.
£380,000 of Essex taxpayers money has disappeared in administration of a failed attempt to set up an Essex bank. In 2009, Conservative-controlled Essex County Council thought it would have a go at being a bank.
