Lib Dems ‘most LGBTI-friendly choice’ for Europe
50 days ahead of the European elections on 22 May, a new analysis shows that Liberal Democrats are the party most likely to push for improved LGBTI rights if elected to the European Parliament. More Lib Dem candidates for the European elections have signed a pledge to stand up for human rights and LGBTI equality than from any other political party in the UK - or Europe. The pledge is being run by ILGA-Europe- an EU-wide network representing over 400 LGBTI organisations.

Joint EU police operation nets 213 smartphone thieves
213 suspected mobile phone thieves have been arrested in a joint EU-wide police operation in the UK and a further seven EU countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Romania). The coordinated operation against individuals and gangs behind smartphone theft led to 120 arrests in London alone and the seizure of 2401 stolen phones.

Lib Dem Birstall Councillor Fights for a New School
Today, Cllr Simon Sansome handed in a petition to Leicestershire County Council with over 250 signatures calling for a new school in Hallam Fields. The area has been promised a new primary school since the developments started several years ago. Section 106 contributions have been put aside for it, but still no school delivered.
