A NEW Citizens Advice Scotland report has found thousands of Scots have been pushed deeper into poverty by Coalition Governments benefit cuts. THOUSANDS of sick, disabled and unemployed Scots are going without meals, gas and electricity because of Con-Dem Government benefits cuts, a study claims.
ROADS A recent cash injection by the Government to Shropshire's roads budget is beginning a difference on some of the major roads through our area. Repair work that has been left undone for months, such as the main road by the Church in Marton and the Leigh Road, is now imminent. Some smaller roads which were in a dreadful state, such at Lower Wood are also being addressed. However, that still leaves a mass of potholes and degraded surfaces on minor roads that need doing. It is estimated that at our current rate of repair it will take 93 years to finish the job! It would be far simpler if the Government ring-fenced a proportion of the Road Fund Licence (or some of the duty on petrol) for local authorities to maintain our roads. It would be a far better solution to the problem and go a long way to addressing the chronic state of our roads in Shropshire. NEW HEAD OF SCHOOL FEDERATION Sue Cooke, site head at Stiperstones School will take over as the new head of the Chirbury and Stiperstones Schools Federation from later on this month. I'm sure she will make a superb head. Tim Roberts the Headmaster of Chirbury School (and the first head of the Federation) will be retiring after 27 years. We all wish him well in his retirement. PLANNING. Following the refusal of planning permission for two houses near the Methodist Church in Snailbeach, the developer has now appealed. This will be heard by Planning Inspectorate and all comments already made by residents will be taken into consideration. The matter will also be discussed by Worthen and Shelve Parish Council at their next meeting in Stiperstones School on 28th July.
