Tories Whinge at Ashtead Residents about Voting RA

A Tory newsletter issued across part of the Epsom & Ewell parliamentary constituency has told local residents that it's OK for national Lib Dem or Labour supporters to vote for an Independent in a local election, but not for Conservatives to have this choice! The Tories failed to win any of the three Ashtead wards in the local council elections in May (Independent candidates were victorious) which were held at the same time as the General Election, won by Tory MP Chris Grayling.

Watching the BBC setting up procedure was almost as interesting as the film itself, until we heard from Mahinder Singh Pujji that is. To listen to the personal reflections of a Battle of Britain pilot was humbling, especially as he seemed confused about our reaction to his statement about never having been afraid.

This weekend the Liberal Democrats will be at Pride Bristol. The organisers of Bristol Pride are expecting up to 30,000 people on the day to attend the free festival in Castle Park, right in the heart of the city.

Call for action on 'Beirut' flats

Residents of some blocks of flats run by Wolverhampton Homes have told Springvale's Liberal Democrat Councillors that their flats look just as if they were in Beirut. Wolverhampton Homes insist on health and safety grounds that communal hallways should be clear of anything that may burn and residents have had to get rid of carpets and curtains they had put in to smarten up communal areas. Yet nearby in Dudley Borough no such rules apply!

Epsom County Court Closure

Epsom and Ewell Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has issued a statement expressing their concern about the impact of the proposed closure of Epsom County Court. The fear is that closure will limit access to justice for residents of Epsom and Ewell. The CAB is also concerned about the adverse effect on the level of homelessness in the borough.
