Yesterday, South Lakes MP Tim Farron, county councillor Ian Stewart and the headteacher of Settlebeck School Dr Judith Greene met with Schools Minister David Laws MP in Westminster to make the case for more funding for councils to offer transport for post-16 students continuing in education.
Last night's Council meeting started with all political parties agreeing that the new Council homes in Sewell Place, Hillmorton were wonderful. One councillor went so far as to say that even the local wildlife supported the scheme as the new houses had built in bat boxes and hedgehog runs. Cllr Richard Dodd (Lib Dem, Paddox) said he looked forward to seeing similar high quality schemes elsewhere in the borough.
Here's a WC press release about the budget. First the health warnings. Note the reference to 'more than 250 residents'. Whilst this could in theory be any number above 250 it's likely to mean 251, because if it had been 252 WC would have said 'more than 251'. The population of Wiltshire is 470,981 (2011 census). 251 people as a proportion of that is 0.000533. Many of those people were councillors, so the number of real people will be even more miniscule.
There is a strong campaign fuelled by local residents working together to help Keep Milton Green by opposing housing plans for the area which would see the closure of a school and a hospital.

At tonight's Council meeting (10 February 2015) the Council agreed a rent rise of 2% in line with the recommendations of the coalition government.
