Local Liberal Democrats have been putting pressure on Conservative-run Essex County Council to carry out the planned parking review for over 2 years. Finally the council has relented and residents have until the 30 September 2009 to make their views known.
Local Tories running Mid Sussex council have given the Chief Executive a massive pay hike. According to council figures, his basic salary in 2008 was £125,000. Now they have hiked it to £147,000 for 2009.
"If you want things to be different, really different, choose the party that is different," said the Leader of the Liberal Democrats.
A proposal that Britain should better support its armed services has been passed at the Liberal Democrat conference. Chelmsford Lib Dem Stephen Robinson persuaded colleagues to extend the commitment to include former service personnel in the proposal.
Lynne Featherstone MP, Lib Dem spokesperson on Equality, gave a keynote speech to the main conference hall today at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Bournemouth. She said:
In the last eight weeks, 28 British soldiers and Royal Marines have been killed in Afghanistan. However easy it may be to forget, we are a nation at war. Already more than 75,000 British men and women have done tours of duty in Afghanistan.
